Not able to ping / curl external hosts

Hello,

I’m using devilbox version v1.8.3 and currently trying to connect a host running within devilbox to an external elasticsearch server for debugging purposes.

As I’ve read in the documentation it normally should work out of the box to connect from within devilbox to an external server: https://devilbox.readthedocs.io/en/latest/advanced/connect-to-external-hosts.html

But I’m not able to get a connection to the external host (or any other). I’ve also tried to ping and curl any external host from within devil-sh but also no chance to get a response.

Could someone try to see if a simple ping on google.com or something like that will get a response via devil-sh? At least so I know if something is wrong with my setup or if this is a general problem.

And if somebody has an idea why I can’t establish an external connection I would be grateful!

So just to clarify. If you enter the php container, you’re unable to ping google.com?

What is the output of it?

Yep, that’s the problem I assume. I came across this because I’ve tried to connect a web application running within devilbox to an external elasticsearch server but could not establish an connection to any external server.

Edit: I really don’t want to waste your time, as you mentioned before it works on your setup. So if further investigation is necessary I think it might be more effective if I create a backup of my system, remove devilbox and set it up from scratch. I use devilbox for quite a while now and it would not surprise me if I fucked up some settings by fiddling around with different projects and settings. Let me know if you have any further ideas otherwise I will have something fun to do on the weekend :wink:

Finally I had some time to remove devilbox and set it up from scratch - wich changed nothing. But this brought me to the conclusion that something with my underlying linux system must cause the problem.

So I’ve uninstalled and purged docker completely, reinstalled it and it works again! :partying_face:

I assume something with the default docker network bridge was misconfigured.
